There is no doubt that the 2016 schedule will be tougher then the 2015 one.

 

IMO, Gus is going to have a breakout season as Jags HC if he wants to be around in 2017 and beyond, and from what I have seen of Gus' head coaching history (12-35), especially this year, the odds are very much against it.

 

So basically 2016 is a prove it year for Gus, can he get the Jags to a winning, or at least a non-losing record, or even the playoffs in the very weak AFCS?

 

I believe that he has to at least get off to a good start to the season to at least have a chance for that to happen.

 

Gus has no shot of doing anything to save his job, his only hope is Bortles turns into a true elite QB by next year, and by true elite I mean that he comes out on the first drive of every game and shoves the ball up the defense's backside and put the fear of God into teams facing us. No more repeated three and outs to start the first couple of quarters of the game. If that happens then Gus will have a chance of his job being safe.

 

Personally I can't see it happening, Bortles is good, but he probably needs a couple of more years before he reaches that level of elite play, and by then Gus will mercifully be gone and a real coach can come in and make everything else work so Bortles can start winning Superbowls.
