I expect no different with Drew. He has a huge amount of pride and ego and I don't expect him signing again for  1.5 million per year.

If we could get him at that price, he could help the team and not take serious money away from potential other signings.

We really need a Tight end that can catch 60 balls a year. That will take some serious cash if in free agency.

 We need a guard and center, good ones, and of course will have to pay for a high

first round QB.

So if he demands 3-4 million per year then wish him well and let him go.

 

Fred Taylor certainly recognized where he was at in his career life cycle when the team started to bring in guys to replace him.  He held it off pretty well for a while, but eventually his role changed.  When the Jags moved on, he took an opportunity to play a lesser role in New England with the hope of getting a ring.  It didn't happen. 

 

I think even MJD has to recognize where he's at in his career.  I think he's a smart enough guy to recognize that his days of being a feature back are behind him, but that doesn't mean he can't contribute.  Regardless of where he winds up next year, his role will not be as the feature back for any team in this league. 

 

In the end, I think keeping a guy like MJD has more value to this team than it would to see him leave for another.  We're going to have a young QB and a reconfigured line next year.  Having his veteran leadership on the roster only helps this team.  Because the market for aging RBs isn't off the charts for contracts, I'd expect to see him looking at his options and extending his time here to finish his career.
