Cap space projections

#22

Quote:I wrote this elsewhere, also gives you an idea where the numbers are coming from.

* Next year's cap is projected to be Between $150m and $153.4m. Let's go with $150m.

* Jags currently have $108m committed to the cap next year. That gives us $42m to start with.

* If the Jags cut Clemons, Beadles, and Gerhart we're now down to $95m spending so our cap space is up to $55m.

* We have $32.25m in cap space this year that we can roll over. That brings us up to $87+m

Interesting.

Spotrac is estimating the overall cap at $154 mil and saying the Jaguars are $45.7 mil under to start with, although they do seem to agree on the $108 mil figure as Blackmon's $3 mil cap hit is not counting while suspended. In other words, the $42 mil figure is a rather safe figure.

Just to double check your estimated $13 mil savings on those three, Clemons appears to save $4 mil, Beadles $5.5 mil and Gerhart $3.5 mil. Indeed that's $13 mil, however, you have to keep in mind that three players at the bottom of the roster take their place among the top 51. So, that $13 mil is offset by about $1.5 mil meaning the overall savings is more like $11.5 mil.

I did look and notice that the Spotrac total is not accounting any rollover money, so they should get to roll over quite a bit. Hopefully there's nothing in the CBA wording that might prevent them from being able to do so. Looking at where they are right now for 2015, Spotrac agrees with the $32.25 mil figure, although it might be even more. According to overthecap.com, the Jaguars are $33.2 mil under ,and according to nfltraderumors.com, the Jaguars are $33 mil under. That said, I agree with using $32 mil as a safe number.

So using a safe overall cap of $150 mil, the Jaguars are $42 mil under. Tack on a carryover of $32 mil puts them at $74 mil under. Add on another $11.5 mil in savings and they're at least $85.5 mil under. Knowing the cap could be as much as $4 mil more and that they may have an addition $1 mil in cap space, the actual number could exceed $90 mil provided all of their cap space carries over. There's also a slight "cap adjustment" made for each team based on player incentives and escalators earned (ie, LTBEs and NLTBEs).
