Playoffs or bust for Gus?
|
I voted no and as Caldwell stated in his interview, there could be a lot of hypothetical scenarios that play into it. Like he said in his press conference, lets say Blake went down the last game of the season and we lose the game finish 9-7 but miss the playoffs, does that mean we pull the cord and gut the roster and coaching staff? No. Its a extreme scenario but its true, I dont think its necessarily "playoffs or bust" or putting a number on the season next year. Gus does not need to win 10-11 games to keep his job, but he does need significant improvement.
For Gus to get a new contract, the team has to significantly improve. Meaning, we win a lot more games than we lose. The team has got to show that it truly is here to contend. The team cant be 4-12, 5-11 or 6-10 etc. He's got to have the team winning football games and contending for the playoffs. The team essentially has to be in the playoffs, thats what winning games does. But its not like Dave sat down with with Bradley wand was like, "okay, if you dont get 10 wins and be in the second round of the playoffs and win the division your out Bradley!" Does not work that way, there could be extreme circumstances that hinder the team from making the playoffs, something coaching has no control over, like injuries. Its going to be the eye test, is the team actually getting better? Are they winning games early on? Are they competing for the playoffs? Is the win to loss ratio better? We could win 9 games and i could see Bradley remain a Jag. I do think his seat is very warm and he does have big expectations from the front office and owner next season, he does have to win, he does have to get to the playoffs, but its not so black and white. Its not playoffs or bust, or win 10 to 11 games or your out. Its not going to work that way. |
