Sign Alex Mack, Trade for Joe Thomas?

Quote:There were several teams who thought they would be in contention who were offered a first at the trade deadline for Joe but he made it impossible to iron out the details. If they decide to move him out in the off season, a team will offer a late first rounder.

Sticking with Wiz and drafting a mid round center is a sensible option. Overpaying Mack to get the same or potentially worse results than Wiz is mind blowing.

How is re-signing a free agent, Wiz, that was an inferior blocker with multiple bad snaps a sensible option for a team that is trying to improve?  Wiz is not the answer.  A mid round center is fine if you plan to have him start years from now; you can't rely on a mid round pick to be an immediate quality starter.  I don't see the Jags using an early draft pick on a center with their defensive needs likely to be prioritized.  The sensible options are either to acquire a center with experience in free agency (not named Wiz), or to move a player such as Cann to center and fill in the guard spot.

To the original post, although not a likely scenario, Mack and Thomas would be a significant upgrade to what we played with this past season.  I have not watched Mack close enough, but several Cleveland-based reports indicate he did play well towards the end of the season, likely finally getting past his leg injury. The Jags created the current $8m per season contract that he is operating under.  Now 2 years older and with the leg injury possibly affecting his play to some degree going forward, I don't think you would need to acquire him with a $10m per season figure.  I think the $8m number will do it, if he wants to play here.  In regards to Thomas, if it would take a 1st or high 2nd round pick to acquire his 3 years roughly $10m per season remaining contract from Cleveland, I would not do it, as I don't want to use that high of a pick for a 3 year patch.  If the LOT position is being targeted for an upgrade, I would rather go after Tunsil or Stanley with the high pick and have them for a career.
