Lots of people here think Gus is a bad football coach.


It might just be the case that Caldwell knows better. He might be of the opinion that Gus is who he thought he was when he hired him. David might take ownership of the state of the defensive side of the roster. He, of course, is in a very unique position to make that kind of assessment.


If he is of the opinion that Gus is still the man for the job, why not extend him now? Why wait until we are coming off a playoff run and his agent demands more? Why not get him locked in now for bottom dollars?


David knows what hand he dealt Gus once Fowler and Marks went out. He's not looking to scapegoat anyone.


I don't think it's out of the question at all.

Not to mention they can still fire him if things don't go as expected...

 

It seems Caldwell basically ignored the first two seasons because of the deep roster cuts and limited expectations with UDFA, and rookies, in starting positions and basically have a bunch of guys just thrown together to get enough people to make a team. So an extension could be saying the first 2 years didn't really count, so this year, next year, and the extension year is all ya got to make this team good
