Quote:Ramsey Bosa or Jack is looking like the pick. And I'm fine with that.
Tunsil and a QB with also be in the top 5.
1. Tunsil
2. Goff
3. Bosa
4. Treadwell
5. Ramsey/Jack
That's how I see the top 5 playing out.
I think Buckner will end up being higher on teams' draft boards than Bosa. Buckner is in play for our pick at 5 as well. 4 is way too high for Treadwell. When all's said and done I can be envision this being a very likely scenario based on the other teams' needs in the top 5 and the fact Buckner will be viewed as a better prospect than Bosa:
1. Tunsil
2. Wentz
3. Buckner
4. Lynch
5. Jack/Ramsey/Bosa
To prevent us from being beholden to drafting any one player based on need at position, obtaining Tashuan Gipson and Olivier Vernon in FA should be paramount. That way we can take whoever Dave thinks is best out of Jack, Ramsey, and Bosa. Getting a FS in FA does not stop us from picking Ramsey either because we can put him at box safety as well and he will still be a massive upgrade and difference maker for us.
Taking Bosa will really make our D-Line dominant with Vernon in the fold and Fowler and Marks back. Our D-Line goes from being very bad last year to one of those lines that blow up the QB every possession like Denver's and New England's. Dominance. That type of front line dominance trickles to the rest of the defense and makes everything behind it better.
Taking Jack gives us an elite LB corps. I think Fowler will start at OTTO next year (even though they won't "call him that" apparently). That means our LB corps will consist of Fowler-Jack-Smith. That is one of the best, youngest, most athletic LB corps in the league. Having Vernon up front gives us the luxury of making this type of luxury pick. Jack also gives us a guy who can cover tight ends in man. We can even legitimately put him at slot corner some downs. In a lot of ways he's like a bigger version of Ramsey honestly, with better coverage skills. He just has a different base position. Jack also gives us a guy we can put in short goal-line situations and get automatic TDs. It's killing two-birds with one stone. Hell, we could give him legit snaps at RB and he'd be electric. All around awesome player.
Taking Ramsey gives us a massive upgrade over Cyprien. The days of seeing our starting SS whiff on tackles and getting dragged across the ground and blown up in coverage will be over, replaced by a bigger version of Tyrann Mathieu. If we get Weddle or Gipson in FA though, he'd be my third pick out of Bosa and Jack.
Personally, if we're able to address FS and pass rush legitimately in FA I think Jack should be the pick. He is the most likely All-Pro/multi-probowl type player out of the three and we can use him in just as many if not more ways than Ramsey. We can honestly put him at box safety if the coaching staff doesn't want to get rid of Poz and be fine. That's how good of an athlete he is. He will run similarly in the 40 and post similar uber athletic numbers as Ramsey at the combine while being bigger and having better coverage and ball skills. That type of player doesn't come around often and only reason he will be at 5 is because of his base position.
