I was fine with Cam Newton for most of the season, although he is starting to wear on me a bit. For me, it's similar to my dislike of JJ Watt and I think it has to do with two things:

 

First, is the sports media. This isn't really the players' fault, but the media loves to find a budding star and then immediately proceeds to run them into the ground with constant coverage. They get over saturated to the point where any stories, even new ones, just begin to wear on you.

 

Second, I think both tend to put on a bit of a show for the cameras and play themselves up to the media. I don't doubt that both of them are nice people and do good things in their communities, but I never get the feeling either are completely genuine whenever I hear them. Watt did his whole "live in a cabin in the woods cause I'm humble" shtick last offseason when in reality he was essentially living in a somewhat rural mansion. During Hard Knocks, while the cameras were on him, he also stayed a couple hours after practice to make sure everyone that wanted an autograph got one and then worked out by himself. Newton's football giveaways after touchdowns and all the dabs have started to have a similar feeling to me. It feels like it's not just about the actions, but also about the praise/publicity that comes with said actions.

 

Having said all that, I'm not sure would have gotten tired of either of them if it wasn't for all the coverage they've received for even relatively mundane things.
