Preface:  I am in no way impugning your racial attitudes for the purposes of this discussion.

 

Question:  After every first down, the stadium erupts into the "Move those chains" chant along with the first down signal.  For that matter, in Denver, after every opponent's incompletion, the crowd yells "In-Com-Plete!"

 

Are those the actions of people lacking in character (acknowledging the innate silliness of it)?

 

Do fans have license to do things that players don't?  Why?

 

Are players held to a higher standard of behavior than fans?  Should they be?

 

If people having little to nothing to do with the outcome of the game (fans) can express emotions after an event that happens within a game, why can't players, who have everything to do with what transpired, express themselves without scorn, as long as it is within the rules of the game?
