We don't "depend" on foreign oil.  That's exactly why the OPEC countries have been flooding the market bringing oil prices and gas prices down.

 

The current "bio-fuel" (ethanol) forced on us is damaging and more costly to the end-user, plus it's not as efficient as regular refined oil (gasoline).

 

As far as using a bio-fuel in a diesel engine, that's a whole other thing.  A diesel engine works differently than a gasoline engine, especially when it comes to a two stroke engine commonly found in yard tools, boat motors, etc.

 

A diesel engine makes sense when it comes to vehicles or construction equipment, but it doesn't make sense for common tools used by most homeowners and work industries.

 

Here is another thing to consider.  How about converting to natural gas rather than coal in some power plants?  What about using natural gas for vehicles?  We have an abundance of it, and most of it gets wasted.
