Flint, MI water supply tainted by chemicals

#52

Quote:I haven't followed the story but it seemed as if MSNBC simply wants to blame the Republican Governor while not blaming the Democrat Mayor or Democrat President of the USA whom should have called in FEMA to assist the residents among the Army corps of Engineers.

It is very sad that the children of Flint, MI may already have irreversible brain damage due to the lead exposure.
Eh, technically there's plenty of blame to go around at the state and local levels, not so much for the federal government really. It was Flint's decision to cheap out and go to a water source they knew was problematic that led to the whole mess, and Michigan's governor is the [BLEEP] suggesting that everyone in Flint should get a 30% discount on their water bill because the city knowingly pumped water that, you know, can't be imbibed into their homes.

Quote:I agree there is still a long way to go. Right now energy storage technology isn't close to being ready for intermittent sources like solar and wind to be viable alternatives.

There is right now a non-intermittent cost-competitive alternative to fossil fuels, namely nuclear power. Recent designs re-use the waste products and would cut the final waste by 90%. Politics and misinformation has killed that possibility.
I don't particularly want a nuclear reactor in my backyard, but I do think that they're a valuable tool for reducing fossil fuel emissions and lessening our oil dependence while we figure out how to make solar and wind work. It's a logical next step and would actually be a huge help in easing humanity's effect on climate change, but no one's willing to consider it because OMG CHERNOBYL.
