It's a logical next step and would actually be a huge help in easing humanity's effect on climate change, but no one's willing to consider it because OMG CHERNOBYL. Nuclear reactors release less radioactives into the environment than fossil fuel plants, even including Fukushima (here's a thought, don't build power plants on a shoreline that's prone to tsunamis). I doubt nuclear would do much to reduce oil dependence, unless electricity got so cheap that it was profitable to convert coal to petroleum, or someone invented a much better battery making electric cars more than just a toy for the rich. And yeah, citing an obsolete Eastern Block reactor as a reason to avoid nuclear power is pathetic. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
