Jags significantly under the minimum 89 percent cash spending required by next year

Quote:Highly doubt you could get Hurns for 5-7M a season.

Last year Torrey Smith got 5 yr 40M deal, Randall Cobb got a 4yr 40M, and Maclin got 5yr 55M, would not surprise me to see him and his agent try to get in that ballpark.

You realize those guys were free agents, right? They were able to negotiate with any team that wanted them. More interested parties tends to drive the price up. Hurns is under contract for at least the next two years at basically the league minimum wage. The whole point of opening negotiations with a guy like Hurns this early in his career is to sign him to a contract that is under market value but still represents a big raise to the player. Hurns gets to upgrade his lifestyle a bit and obtains some financial security. If he chooses to bet on himself, so be it. He'll have to wait at least a couple of seasons and hope for the best even though a healthy Marqise Lee could potentially put a dent in his production. This is pretty basic stuff. This team wouldn't have much money to spend if you guys did the negotiating.
