Of the 4 backs you list, Yeldon and Gray are more early and every down RBs. Robinson and Grant are better suited as 3rd down RBs. I would bring them all into camp, along with a rookie draft pick and/or free agent pickup, and let them compete for the spots and down roles.
And why would we want to cut Drob one year shy of his contract to give some unknown or some rehash FA his spot?
I don't see how Robinson's contract term remaining is relevant or how well known some player is. I would not keep a player just because he is cheap; the goal is to win the games and talent is important (not how far under the cap you are). I would be an advocate to cut DRob only if the other backs in camp/preseason beat him out. My only concern for the decision drivers for DRob is his suspect ball control.
Especially since we're talking about back-ups and role players.
A backup to Yeldon for a breather/rotation and/or a 3rd down specialist-type RB are likely to get a good number of snaps.
My question wasn't answered. Why would you WANT your RB depth to essentially get worse, just to replace a guy who fumbled too much in his limited chances this past season.
Bringing in a number of other backs through FA and/or the draft and having them compete for the spots does not make the RB depth worse. Turnovers are a big driver in many games, as you know. In determining whether to keep DRob at the end of preseason, they will need to believe that his hands and ball security have improved

Point of the matter is... D Rob definitely wants to stay, and there is no reason why fans should definitely want him gone prior to his contract expiring.
Again, the contract expiring is not relevent. If cheap players win games, your roster would be 100% undrafted minimum first year players.
If this season goes by and he hasn't done much, or anything, we can move on and upgrade then. (Maybe Grant was the speed we intend to replace Drob with)

I think you misunderstand me...
I'm not saying don't bring in competition. I just don't understand why anyone would want to straight up cut D-Rob.
Bring in 20 RBs and let the best play, hell yeah, but I'm saying you don't cut a guy (who doesn't count toward the cap for hardly any $) just because he fumbled last year.
If you cut D-Rob right now, our RB depth is instantly worse. UNLESS you replace him with a guy you know is equally good or better.
If we cut Drob and don't sign any FA RB, we're looking at the RB list I gave... not better by any means than last year.
Yeldon's back ups got very little reps until he was injured.
