Now after doing some reading on the matter of Suh's contract correct me if im wrong: when they say a signing bonus that doesnt necessarily mean thats money they get immediately. Thats the money gaurenteed for just "signing the contract" hence the term signing bonus. This amount can be prorated over the life of a contract. So in essence the player is getting the same total amount of signing bonus money just broken up at a different times.


In Suh's case he signed a deal for 6 year 114 with a 25 mil signing bonus and 60 mil guarenteed. From how I understand that it is at minimum he makes 25 million if he gets cut the day after he signed it, at minimum 60 mil if he plays the whole contract with the ability to make up to 114 mil.



The issue is he played for a base salary of less than 1 mil and only 5 mil of his signing bonus last year. They did that to make sure he was under contract and pushed the money to the back end over the last 5 years.


He is supposed to make 28 mil this year cause he only played for 6 mil last year. If they push that back even more it will just keep setting them up for even more failure later. Like I said it isnt my team whose salary cap is in trouble and its not the end of the world if we cant get Vernon but boy they are better of trying to create cap space in gereal rather than just to give it all to him and be in the same situation next year.
