The Newark Star-Ledger's Jordan Raanan believes the Giants' first call in free agency will go to transition player RE Olivier Vernon.


Vernon's phone will be blowing up come March 7 when teams are allowed to "legally" begin contacting free agents. Players are allowed to officially sign contracts starting the afternoon of March 9. Vernon is arguably the top player available after he was slapped with merely the transition tag by the Dolphins on Tuesday. He's allowed to negotiate with all 31 other teams, and the Dolphins get nothing but the right to match any offer. The Giants are in desperate need of pass rushers, as are a number of other clubs. The Jaguars should also be in the mix.
