Well, this is clearly the tough spot most didn't want to see happen. The LEO market is clearly thin at this point, and the options out there are very slim. There's a lot of different scenarios to play out, as you outlined in your original post. The answer, however, should be simple.

 

If there's a LEO pass rusher available at 5 that you like, you take him.

 

If there's a LEO at say, 20-25 and we're sitting there in the early 2nd round and that guy is someone we like? Trade up and get him.

 

I hate to jinx us, but aside from LEO, we have pretty solid depth at just about every position in our team (QB not included, since most teams really don't have two QBs). I don't believe we can sit and hold on to our picks thinking "what if so and so is still there in the 3rd/4th/5th round"

 

Yes, we can use some depth at LB. But those guys are available late in the draft, or even now in FA. Sean Spence is a very solid guy and he "settled" for a 1 year 3M deal. He would have been fine had he signed with us. 

 

That option simply does not exist for pass rushers.

 

If there's a LEO within reach that we like and think can make an impact, even if not this season...you take them.

 

Guards, centers, linebackers...all of those guys we can get late in the draft.

 

Pass rusher? Not so much.
