A quick perusal of photos from the Hubble and a synopsis of what some of them imply is enough to realize that there are planets with atmospheres that may allow for many species to thrive.

However- I do think that if any of those species had evolved to the point of exploring our corner of the universe - we'd know it.

I wouldn't say it's 'likely' but it's certainly possible.

But I'd say given the size of the Universe, it's unlikely any of them would have found us even if they do have FTL travel. I'd also say that any scientist worth his salt that saw a real life Alien would have told the world and collected his trillion dollars and Nobel Prize by now.

And if any Aliens lived among us, we'd probably be hearing "Build a dome, Send them home!"
