The reason it is taking a long time is because he took the alternative route in meniscus repair. Usually a laproscopic procedure is done and cartilage is taken out. He elected to not have the cartilage taken out, and let it heal on its own. The laproscopic excision on average takes about a month to recover (myself I have had 3 and they took much longer), his route is about 6 months. Knees are a funny thing, and its all about having confidence in the knee. He will be fine, just give him time.
