While both players need explosiveness, a LB-especially a mike-typically doesn't need the array of pass rushing moves and techniques as a DE to effectively execute a blitz.  Now a 3-4 OLB in a blitz heavy scheme essentially functions as an edge rusher, and they need those moves and techniques.  But typically not a mike in a 4-3 or ILBs in a 3-4.

 

If the question is does Jack have the array of pass rushing moves a traditional DE has to be a good pass rusher?  I would say the answer is no.

 

If, however, the question is can Jack be an effective blitzer, then the answer is yes.

 

... Except I never compared him to a DE. As a blitzer, he looks subpar. The tape and his stats back that up.
