It's obviously the best conference in the nation.  How do you not have that conference team in the national title because they pick each other off during the season?

 

Past accomplishments should have no bearing on this year.  

 

To answer your question, you do so because that is how the BCS is set up.  You are punished often times for playing tough opponents.  Hard to feel sorry for an SEC not getting in it when they have gotten the benefit so often in the last 7 years against other 1 loss teams.  Certainly you can make a case for Auburn if they beat Mizzou and I think they should have a shot, just not in this format.  Next year they would.
