Signing bonus and salary are handled separately in terms of how it's claimed each year. And unless there are roster bonuses, you couldn't structure it the way he said. SB is spread evenly over the course of the contract ($50 million over 5 years would be $10 million/year) + salary each year. You can't say to the NFL cap boss, "We guaranteed him $50 million and we paid him $51 million before we cut him so we don't have any dead money left." The remaining SB amortization would still have to be claimed in full as soon as he's released. Guaranteed money is only applicable to SB. Salary isn't guaranteed.
