Caldwell comments on Bosa, Buckner, Jack & Ramsey
|
Caldwell made a few short comments in this Ryan O'Halloran article (
Caldwell on Bosa: “He can fit in any defense — he could do either [the strong-side or weak-side end spots]. He can [be an interior pass rusher], too. You want to be careful – you want to settle him into one spot and get him comfortable doing that first [before moving him around].” On Buckner: “He can play in any system. He could be a three-technique [tackle] for us, he could be a 4B [strong-side end] for us. He could play a six-technique [lined up outside the offensive tackle].” On Jack: “He’s a rare athlete. Rare explosion. Great kid. Smart football player. Three-down player. We’ve talked about [strong-side linebacker]. He’s going to definitely be on the field as a rookie in nickel, which is 65 percent of the snaps. … He’s really good in coverage, but he has the skill set to be a blitzer.” On Ramsey: “He has rare athleticism, length and speed. He’s physical. From a physical standpoint, he can do it all. He’s an A-plus kid.” About the draft in general Caldwell said “There’s a lot of quantity,” Caldwell said of the draft’s defensive class. “There isn’t an overabundance of elite guys, but there’s a good quantity of really good players. And Bradley added: Said coach Gus Bradley: “Without a doubt, every time we pick, there will be some good defensive players there. We’re going to have options. We’ll continue to have the mindset of taking the best player available. We have some needs, but we don’t want to get away from that part of it.” He doesn't say much I know, aside from praising more Jack & Ramsey. Less than one week and we'll find out. EDIT: Adding some more comments about Jack and his knee: Caldwell and Bradley traveled to UCLA to work Jack out privately on April 16. Jack’s final season ended in the third game when he injured his right knee. The true junior did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine or at UCLA’s pro day, but is seven months removed from the injury. “We’ve always scheduled that we would do it privately,” Caldwell said. “He looked good. We put him through linebacker drills, change of direction, drops, bag drills.” Bradley was impressed with Jack, especially considering the fatigue he’s under from the draft process. Elite prospects travel to several teams for visits and conduct private workouts at home in addition to their training. Jack visited EverBank Field on April 5. “I had a chance to visit with him for quite a while [at UCLA],” Bradley said. “We had some time here and then some time there, so that part was good. Then, we put him through position-specific drills that are really based on our scheme and I thought he did a really good job with that. He’s travelled a lot, so I was really impressed with him.” We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
