If you don't think this is a make or break season for Gus (regardless what Shad or Dave say) then you're delusional. He absolutely must perform this year. No more "they competed" or "We played hard and thats what matters." Wins matter. Always have and always will. It's how you judge a coach.

 

It's how YOU judge a coach, because that's all you or I know- did we win or not.   But a GM should be a lot smarter than that.   A GM can actually watch practice, attend meetings, see what the coach is actually doing.   A GM has seen other teams' practices and coaching.   A GM can see things a lot more deeply than you or I can. 

 

So, you are right.   It's how you (or I) judge a coach.   But that doesn't mean you or I are good judges of the coaching, because we don't see the coaching.   We see the games.   Not the practices.   Not the meetings.   We don't see the process.  We see the results.  And in my mind, that's not enough to make us good judges of the job the coaches are doing.  

 

By the way, just a minor point, he won't be in year 5, he'll be in year 4.
