Indy is Instructive

Quote:The only people who believe Luck is not overrated are Colts homers and those who take media hype as Gospel instead of watching him every week. Even his "best" year when the Colts went to the AFC Championship, he didn't have one single good game, not even a passable game, against the few above-average teams they played. Terrible against the Patriots. Twice. Terrible against the Steelers. Terrible against the Cowboys. Terrible against the Broncos. Twice. He was a killer against the mediocre and the bottom feeders though. Which doesn't make him "Elite" no matter how much the hacks and the uninformed continue to promote the agenda.

The media here in Indy desperately makes excuses for Golden Boy at every opportunity. So much so that it's comical to listen to.
Luck came into the league with a lot of hype, and deservedly so. Is he overrated? Possibly, sure. But is that his fault? Did he jump at opportunities to promote himself, like RGIII, or did he focus on being the best QB he could possible be? The media hype was not a result of his doing intentionally, rather, it is a result of his abilities.

Luck came into the league and quietly worked hard. He set the rookie passing yards record, and the record for most yards in a single game by a rookie. He took a depleted Colts team to the Playoffs with an 11-5 record -- a team that consisted of Wayne, Mathis, Donald Brown, and a cast of rookies (Hilton, Allen, Fleener, etc...).

-His second year he improved his passer rating and decreased the amount of INTs thrown dramatically. He led the Colts to the playoffs with an 11-5 record.

-His third year, he led the NFL in passing TDs and improved his passer rating, while leading the Colts to the playoffs, making it to the AFC Championship game.

-In his first three seasons he set the NFL record for most passing yards within a players first 3 years.

I'm not sure what more he needs to do to live up to the hype. Everyone can acknowledge that the Colts have been a flawed team, with no running game and an average to below average defense, yet they still win games.

Please note that the Colts went 11-5 each of Luck's first 3 years. During that span, they beat Forty Niners the year they went to the SuperBowl. They beat the Broncos the year they went to the Superbowl, and they beat the Seahawks the year they went to the Superbowl. Last year, they beat the Broncos again, who went onto win the SuperBowl. Luck threw for over 400 yards against the Steelers. The Colts have beaten many of the leagues best teams, but have also lost to many of the leagues best teams. To say that he played terribly against better competition would be intellectually dishonest.

Lastly, as I had mentioned, the Colts went 11-5 in Luck's first three seasons. The excuse that they only made the playoffs due to the poor AFCS is invalid for the following reasons:

1.In 2012, Houston was 12-4 and won the AFC South. The AFC South was not a weak division, with the Colts following behind at 11-5.

2. Houston finished with a winning record in 2014 and 2015 (9-7) leaving the AFCS with two teams with a winning or even record, (Colts 11-5, 2015 Colts 8-8).

3. The Colts played 10 games each season outside of the AFC South and ended up with a winning record in those games. Therefor, AFC South is not the majority of the games they've played. As mentioned earlier, the Colts have won against good competition and lost against good competition, outside of the AFCS.
