In the books Brienne is described as being thoroughly unattractive in addition to being...manly. This actress is by no means ugly, she's just a big woman (BONUS!). So I wonder if her looks are rooted in disdain for Tormund being a "filthy wildling" or more her being awkward because the character has been traditionally spurned by men (Renly aside...but he doesn't count because he like dudes)?

A little bit of both of these I'm sure. I'm not a big girl like Gwendoline Christie but I'm tall and awkward and have had my share of nasty things said to me about my looks by males and females since grade school so I can identify with her awkwardness around men. And Tormund is not put off by her size at all so it's weird for her. The fact that he's a wildling and 'uncivilized' makes it even worse.
