I really don't think it's either/or. I think you do need the talent, but some schemes require less talent (or less specific skill sets) than others. Cover 2 requires zone corners, Gus's defense requires athletic pass rushers. Reggie White could've played in any scheme and been successful, but James Harrison was great in a specific one and completely unfit for others. Look at Bryce Paup when he came here, it wasn't lack of effort, it was a poor scheme for him. Sapp, Lynch, Rice, and Brooks would've been great anywhere, but Rhonde Barber? He was the right fit for the scheme. My issue continues to be that we are playing a very specific scheme without the very specific players needed to be great, and Gus "didn't know what else to do" with the players he had.
