While the "norm" has been for teams to re-sign FO personnel as their contracts come up unimpeded by other teams, it doesn't mean that another needy team couldn't try (and succeed) at doing so. I forgot the name of the player, but a few seasons back, the Browns waived him injured because other teams never claim them on waivers. Low and behold, Jacksonville claimed the player who's name I can't remember. The point being, just because it isn't something that happens doesn't mean it can't happen.

 

I also put aside the talk about the talk about the coach as well. I strongly believe that any coach needs a good roster to be successful. I would hardly call the roster of the Jags of the past few seasons strong. This year will be proving grounds for Bradley and his staff. If he cannot make a successful run with this group, then I will readily agree that he is not the man. However, I believe he is a separate and independent entity than Caldwell and the two should not be tied at the hip when it comes to evaluating the success of the job that either has done.

 

So, all that been said, I really think it's in the best interest of the Jaguar organization to lock up Caldwell to an extension.

 

PS: while they're at it, do the same thing with Hurns. The kid has earned it.
