Military Coup Underway in Turkey Right Now

That country has slowly been converting from a democracy to a dictatorship and the coup failing last night will only push it that way faster. Iran was a secular westernized country, in 1979 it became an Islamic theocracy. Now the same is happening in Turkey. The two largest secular Islamic countries in the Middle East have fallen into religious fanaticism. Iraq and Libya (both thanks to the US) have become a lot more theocratic. The trend is in one direction with no end in sight. Along with that is more and more frequent attacks in Western Europe and the US by Islamic fundamentalists. Whether we want to accept it or not, we're in a long-term religious war. Denial is not going to help. On the plus side, massive nuclear war wiping out all of humanity is much less likely than it was before 1990. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
