I have asked people to not say certain things around me in friendly settings. Directly. "Don't say that word around me." If the person is civil, I explain why. If it's someone I didn't know, but we were in a public setting where their racist or ignorant statement is heard by multiple people, I will say something of equal volume to call it out in a negative way. This has ranged from "Not cool bro," to, "That's some real ignorance," to "That's really [BLEEP] up." The only time anything ever escalated to a physical altercation was with a person I knew.


I'm sorry I don't find racism as tolerable as you.
