Did you know that most of the artillery used by the Continental Army was private property? They may not've had AR-15s, but they owned, privately, sans-government, the current military grade weaponry of the day. The Second Amendment is really saying that the government should not have better or more readily available weapons than the populace, who must be prepared to take up arms for or against it at any time. What the Framers did NOT want was government, military, law "enforcement" or anyone else to be able to conquer and subjugate the people,hence the Second and our enumerated right to weaponry that protects the First, our first defense against tyranny.
