I think the threat of confiscation is overblown by the Right.  There are more guns in the hands of citizens in this country than there are citizens.  A gun grab would be extremely difficult and armed resistance would likely coagulate against it and the government knows this.  

 

I do think the AR-15 is unfairly demonized though and is often held up as an example of enabling mass shootings sometimes even after events where a different style of gun was used.  AR doesn't stand for Assault Rifle nor does the AR-15 fall into the assault rifle class which it is often mistakenly put there by the media.  If a ban on 30 round magazines ever made its way through Congress, people would find ways around it and quite frankly some hand guns have 15 round magazines or better and I would argue that two 15+ round pistols could be just as deadly if not more so than one 30 round AR-15 because a properly prepared shooter would be able to essentially move at full speed and if a jam happens you still have the other hand gun.  Are we then going to ban 15 round magazines for hand guns as well?

 

The above examples of potential legislation are much more likely to happen than large scale gun confiscation and that's what we need to be worried about, not the Left's end game which is extremely far away from where we are right now.
