Political Background

I missed the registration deadline to vote for Dole which was the first election I was eligible to vote in. I've voted for Bush twice, McCain and finally Romney. None of them were my candidate in their respective primaries and I wasn't ecstatic to pull the lever for any of them. I even changed my party affiliation to "No Party Affiliation" for a while but realized quickly that being able to vote in the primaries is worth more than the pride I took in taking a protest stance. But if you're going to the voting booth thinking you're voting for the guy or gal that's going to save you and change your life, you're always going to get disappointed because that's never going to happen. I just want the person that's going to get unnecessary government regulation out of my way as much as possible and I'm just trying not to vote for a party that wants to keep chopping off the bottom few steps on the ladder that I've already climbed out of "fairness" and create a hypothetical ever lowering glass ceiling where they can smugly look down on the rest of us from their elitist political position.
I could cross party lines for an Independent or Libertarian candidate given the right issues being addressed and the right circumstances, but the Democrat party has basically become the Socialist party over the last 40 years. There aren't enough moderate Democrats to make me think that voting for a Democrat would get me anything but more socialism. So I'll pass on ever supporting that and generally speaking voting for a 3rd party candidate instead of the Republican is almost like voting for the Democrat. Any conservative that truly understands and believes in conservative principles of limited government should never allow themselves to do that. If Gary Johnson polls in the 25% range just prior to election day I would give consideration to voting for him but otherwise it's at best a wasted vote and at worst helping socialism take over. |
