I Still Believe in Bortles - merged

Quote:that's why he himself needs to adjust I'm of the mindset there's only so much he can do at this stage. He's still pretty young. I can't believe I'm about to type this, but I can't help but feel like a large part of what we say yesterday is the direct result of what happens when you have a young player at the most important position on the field who, by my uneducated view, pretty much has to carry a team on his back to even be competitive. The running game is non-existent. The defense continues to leak points like a sieve and can't get off the field (with the caveat that turnovers directly contribute to this in a never-ending loop of despair). He's pressing because he feels like he has to and that is directly leading to colossal mistakes which become points for our opponents. Simply put, at this stage in his career, it is unrealistic to expect Blake to be able to carry this team to successful outcomes virtually all by himself...which is basically where we are now. In each case where we've had any measure of success, it has been a team effort. For as bad as last season was, I distinctly remember the defense actually showing up in a few games and lo and behold, we won the majority of those. This is no absolving him of blame. He deserves a good bit of it for his performance yesterday but let's not pretend he's the root of our problems when what we just suffered through symptomatic of a much more distressing malady. I can't help but cosign what the majority is saying: it's coaching. How can you come out in week 1 and take it to Green Bay (a perennial playoff contender) with a stout defense and the best QB in football one week and nearly lay an egg against a injury decimated and, quite frankly, inferior-to-Green Bay team like San Diego (not to imply the Chargers are awful only that they aren't as talented as the Packers)? Our west coast woes aside, only poor coaching makes any amount of sense on such a scale. Incidentally, Indianapolis is in the exact same boat now.
