I agree with you that Lageman tends tells it like he sees it when he talks about the players. But I don't remember him ever criticizing the coaching staff, at least not while they were still with the team. But I have listened to only a fraction of his radio shows, so maybe I just missed it. To your knowledge, has Lageman ever criticized a coach?

 

I'm glad you asked that question.

 

Yes, he has criticized coaching decisions.

 

However, if you're expecting him to go on a Rick Ballou or Jeff Prosser screaming rant about whether or not he likes or dislikes the coach you're going to be disappointed.  That's not his job.

 

He does his job very well, as well as or better than those in any market.

 

Coaching decisions, coaching methods, player techniques and performance, ...all things he comments on at length.  And when there's something to be critical of, he spotlights it - showcases it and certainly does not hide, cover, or apologize for it.

 

But if you're looking for an editorial rant or rave (which is not his job) instead of strictly football analysis (which is his job) - you're expecting the wrong kind of commentary from him.  You're better of chasing talking heads for their opinions rather than not expecting those same kind of takes in Lageman's analytical commentary.
