How would you fix things?

#31

Quote:1. That's a ton of overhaul. You'd be making a guy who's practically retired your Head Coach and destroying your organizational chart. Even when coaches get fired mid-season, you rarely see much overhaul during the interim season. You would only be wasting money while creating excess chaos for a team that hasn't given up yet. The players are angry, but you can't say Gus has completely lost the team just yet.

2. Where do I begin? Those guys only have a year left or so on their deals, why not just play them out or bench them if you're blowing up the season. Even at that, you'd have to bring in replacements who don't know the playbook/system. Besides the fact that your trade offer is about as Madden as it gets, it makes no sense for either team. I can't imagine that Dallas would have much interest in Yeldon and Lee. Especially in a Yeldon/  Morris swap. Lee is not the coveted must have receiver people seem to think he is, and WR's go for cheap (unless the trade partner is Seattle). I don't know why you assume any team would go gaga over a 7th rounder, Plus I wouldn't want to part with a 2nd rounder for a guard when Beachum is a better Tackle. It's more economical to keep the 2nd rounder and spend it on a tackle or guard and let Joeckel walk next year.

3-4.You're thinking too far ahead. Are we GM for the day or next season. A lot can change. Berry and Hyde aren't going anywhere and those corners are average and I wouldn't care to spend FA prices on any of them. So you'd focus on getting Offensive Lineman in the draft? OK. Wait until it's time to evaluate these guys before drafting 9 months early based on projections you got from Walter Football who got his projections from Ourlads who got their predictions from Rotoworld, who got their projections from (and so on)

5. I don't think I have an issue with the level of aggressiveness of the offense. Playcalling style/downfield throws is not even close to the issues. I think the short stuff, has been atrocious not the aggressive stuff. Plus we are only the GM for a day, not the coach/coordinator. Honestly, most of those issues fall on Blake. He is regressing, let's not tiptoe around it and make excuses here. He is not making strong throws with direction, or zip. His passes have been short, wobbly, wide, etc. He needs to continue work on mechanics and his decision making needs serious refinement.

I feel the sentiment of wanting change, but it's not going to be fixed in one day/one off-season. Caldwell needs to fix the holes and be willing to part with busts like Joeckel, he was a bad pick (most of that class turned out to be flops) you need to move on and replace. Gus needs to tighten up his team or get out. Blake needs to make better decisions and tighten up mechanics. It's a complete organizational effort but it starts with Gus and the players.

The season is already lost. I say blow it all up, start from scratch. We should start rebuilding immediately. We can't afford to waste time. Yes, Kiffin is old, but he has experience and in my mind, he is the most qualified to take over as interim coach.

Dallas has an abundance of quality O-Linemen and by giving them another high draft pick, they could use it to upgrade the defense, which is their biggest area of concern. Again, no one said they would take the deal. That is what I would offer though. If they didn't take it, I move on. I really don't want to have to draft a LT, because we've had so much bad luck picking that position and I'm not overly excited about the players available in the 2017 draft. With David Bakhtiari getting a new deal with the Packers, there goes any chance of getting a quality free agent too. I don't believe Beachum is the answer at LT. He's better than Joeckel, but that's like saying a bologna sandwich taste better than a can of Alpo. I'll draft a LT if I have to, but that's my last resort.

You're GM for the entire next season in my scenario.

Maybe Berry or Hyde get tagged or possibly both. Those two would be my targets though, if they are available. If they aren't, I have to draft a Safety and gamble again. As for the Corners, I disagree. I like them and I'm not high on what we have. Amukamura has looked good when he's healthy, Ramsey is young and the rest of our corners are really hit and miss. As for the O-line, yes, that is where I would focus on the draft. To say we are thin on the O-Line is a major understatement. It's completely patchwork. I just threw out some names of guys I am looking at based on research I've done. (I'm quite a draftnik.) I don't care how those other sites have guys ranked at all. I have my own boards. I might find some other guys I like better before the season is over, but for now, those are the O-Linemen I like.

Again, No, we are not GM for just one day in my scenario. We are GM through next season. I disagree about Bortles. I believe he is trying to do too much, because he knows we have no running game and the defense stinks. I think he is trying to do everything himself and make big plays happen where he shouldn't. That is why he is forcing passes. Yes, he needs to clean up his mechanics, but that is why I want to bring in a head coach who promises to bring in a QB guru who knows how to coach up young signal callers. This should make a world of difference.

Change isn't going to happen overnight, but the defensive scheme we have, does not work and it has never worked here in Jacksonville. It's time to stop the madness and go back to the tried and true schemes. That will take time, but it's better than banging our heads against a brick wall and repeating the same mistakes.
