Chris Simms says to end Bortles experiment

Quote:You kind of described Colin Kaeperinick struggles in his passing game. Jags are screwed.

Kaep's early success was due to a dominant o-line, which produced a dominant run game, aided by a dominant defense. Because their run was so dominant, teams were forced to almost exclusively play man coverage, while committing an extra defender in the box. Man coverage is a lot easier to read and when the play breaks down, Kaep was afforded huge running lanes because the linebacker and secondary defenders (typically) had the backs turned away from him, covering their "man" downfield. When the run game fell off, teams played more zone, forcing Kaep to actually read coverage while keeping their eyes on him at all times, that's what happens at this level. Teams make adjustments, they always try to force your weakness, if players can't adjust themselves they won't be playing for long.
