U.S. owes black people reparations for a history of ‘racial terrorism,’ says U.N. panel
|
Quote:I see your argument and point but it is not 1840, 1890, 1920, 1950, or 1970 anymore there are opportunities to be had. For the most part anyone of working age today has had equal opportunity. Affirmative action is not a fix all but its a step in the right direction. Police have targeted your communities and that does need to be dealt with but there is no one saying you can't go to a school because its whites only or holding anyone back from going to a library to learn. There is nothing stopping anyone from joining the military and getting training there. Appreciate the ideas but you missed the mark. What dictates the school you attend? Residence. What dictates where you live? Why are there so many blacks living in the ghettos and poor neighborhoods? What did their parents do/not do to put them there? What did the grandparents do/not do to put the parents in this situation? And the great grandparents before that? The "opportunity" was almost never equal - even when segregation was deemed unlawful. Yes - if a black kid and white kid were born as neighbors on the same street to families with identical social and economic class - then things could be considered relatively equal for those 2 specific children. Very important to recognize that you are unequivocally a product of your environment. And your last point: Blacks are 25-30 times more likely to join the military than Whites. So we have to put our lives in danger and risk death to protect the country for rich white peope just to get "equal" education? Thanks for nothing.., Keep the conversation going. Seriously, ask a black co-worker to chime in. |
