Chris Simms says to end Bortles experiment

Quote:I don't consider Bortles' numbers from last year. They mean pretty much nothing, except that he was able to inefficiently pile up stats while trailing. If we had all of the things that you wish he had surrounding him his numbers would have been pedestrian, as evidenced by his extremely average rate stats.

Also, if you looked at my 'divvy up the blame pie' thread I started, I assigned 25% of the blame to Blake. I gave twice as much blame to the coaching staff. That is more than fair and not close to what you are accusing.

If we are going to be contending we need Blake to not be 25% of the problem, we need him to be 25% of a "divvy up the credit pie" thread. AKA, not just back to where he was last year which I would say was more or less replacement level (this year obviously far below replacement level), but an equal jump forward.

Settle down. We don't know what his stats would have been last year with a competent running game and defense. Maybe his yardage dips a bit but the touchdowns may have only taken a slight dent. Which is fine by me. I'll take wins over statistics all day any day. I didn't see your thread. I don't follow people around here like a lost puppy. LOL. But I'll take a look. And I meant "fans" as a generalization. Not a personal jab at you.

My hope is that we see that 50% of blame from the coaching staff from your pie get eaten up and replaced by competent coaching and play calling instead. I just think so far we're failing. Caldwell invested a very high 2ND RD pick on Yeldon a year ago. He forked over some more fat loot this off-season to Ivory. The lineman still seem to be off balance. But I think his intent was to give this team a balanced running attack. So Bortles would have less pressure to carry this offense.

The defense has flashed in two games at home. I think they will only continue to grow and get better now. I think other than Andrew Luck we don't really see many more scary QB's down the pipeline. So we should have a realistic shot at winning some games this year.
