Blake with a running game, played solid

Quote:I'm fairly certain we can blame past precedent for this.

For the past two seasons, Blake got hammered behind our line. I'm of the mindset that we'll see him begin to settle down and trust them to give him time to go through his progressions. I don't think it's feasible to expect this to happen instantaneously however. I have faith he'll get there.

I have wondered for awhile now if sharp uptick in accuracy and decision making while moving is directly related to him trusting himself more than his line? I mean it should be more difficult to accurately throw a rope between two defenders while rolling out than standing in the pocket sipping tea, right?

Yes you're right, to a degree, keep in mind that people (in general) tend to revert back to whats comfortable when under extreme stress. There are QB's who don't see the field well while in the pocket, that combined with the overload of information going through their heads (I think this combination can be classified as extreme stress) will often times cause them to revert back to whats' comfortable from a mechanical standpoint. In Blake's case it's throwing off his back-foot with an elongated throwing motion, it's obvious that he's more comfortable reading defenses from outside the pocket because the field is cut in half, which makes for easier reads. He's "reacting" more in this situation than "thinking", it's all about trusting what you see, I'm of the opinion that this is the reason Gus (in his press conference today) revealed that the the coaching staff "simplified" the offense, so the guys could play "faster".

As Blake continues to grow in this offense, the results should be a more decisive QB who's comfortable reading defenses in and out of the pocket, resulting in quick-decisive decisions. As the game continues to slow down (we can only hope this happens), the results should be him trusting his eyes more (in the pocket) allowing him to solely hone in on his mechanics, there's just too much going on his head at the present moment for this to happen right now.
