The greatest branding event of the last half century is no doubt the 30 second quip about "Democrats care about black people." It may surprise some of those who know me here, but I was actually a pretty liberal person coming out of high school and entering college. Like most people of color I had been taught, both passively and actively, over the last few years of my life that to be black and inspirational meant to support the liberal agenda, more specifically the Democratic party. They would INVEST IN ME and have people PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE and the like. I won't go into the long and short of my entire conversion to modern constitutional conservatism, but I will highlight the one truth that I came to realize at the apex of that Journey.
Liberalism CAN'T work for Black people!
Not that it "just doesn't right now", not that it needs another MENSA IQ with a little twist to make it better. Modern Liberalism CAN'T work for black people. Why? The answer is both painfully obvious and painfully simple, "Because liberalism Doesn't Work!"
Just think about it. If you are sitting on the side of the road, and you need to get from here to California, a car with no engine isn't going to get you there! You can spend as much money as you want on brakes, mirrors, carpets etc. but you still won't move an inch.
Case and point, over the last 8 years, we have lived through the most massive government expansion in history. We are currently spending more money (as a percentage of GDP) through the federal government than at any time in our countries history. At the height of the NEW DEAL our government spent roughly 13% of every dollar earned in the country. Today that number is 25%. That's double. When you account for state and local governments, we spend 45% of every dollar in this country through a state agency. That's higher than Canada. We also have the most expansive regulatory regime in our countries history. Each year more than a trillion dollars is passed onto consumers to comply with our current regulatory structure.
For this level of state control we were promised an egalitarian, post racial society with less income inequality and direct investments into the communities that needed it the most.
The reality is that for the first time in our countries history, we are going to go through 8 years while never achieving 3% GDP growth. We now have home ownership levels that are the lowest in the last half century. Incomes have stagnated almost completely. But somehow magically we are still going to have 10 trillion dollars of new debt. (And this is with interest rates near zero.)
The stimulus promised shovel ready jobs, new roads, new bridges and new schools. We got Solyndra, and fatter public sector union contracts.
Social Security promised dignity for those who were too old to work. We have seen the greatest theft of wealth from the middle class of this country that is even imaginable. The marginal disposable income that could have been invested in the most advanced financial system in the history of mankind has been wasted and squandered through a Ponzi scheme based on 19th century German state theory threading the needle of government failure to provide both a horrible return on investment for beneficiaries, 0 equity for beneficiaries, and yet an almost infinite level of unfunded liabilities that threaten the solvency of our nation.
Medicare and Medicaid have similar stories. (A child born today with live through over 75 trillion dollars of unfunded liabilities in their lifetime.)
Through Obamacare we were promised that we could keep our doctors, that we could keep our plans and that everyone would save 2500 dollars a year on their health coverage because the mean insurance companies were going to get it this time. A trillion dollars later we have tens of millions of people that were displaced from insurance plans that they chose of their own free will, herded like cattle onto a website that didn't work and was not proven to be safe, given the option of choosing plans that had the benefits of catastrophic insurance (extreme deductibles) but the cost of major medical (high premiums). So much so that most people can't afford them without government subsidies that only push more and more onto the tax payer. And still with the massive decrease in the actual value of insurance, the inordinate increase in the cost of coverage nearly 90% of the publicly funded insurance co-ops have gone out of business and most of the state exchanges set up to provide a defacto government controlled marketplace are collapsing under their own weight and insurers are running for the hills.
The list just goes on and on.
The melanin content of your skin doesn't make social security a good deal or any more solvent. Being black doesn't mean that someone can get their pre-Obamacare health care back. Being Latino doesn't make "SHOVEL READY" a real job in your neighborhood. If you are a person of the Muslim faith kind words doesn't make the school in your neighborhood more accountable for their performance.
In reality, Black unemployment has risen, the percentage of blacks out of the labor force has risen, black home ownership has dropped, black poverty has increased, black participation in food stamps has jumped some 58%.
The only excuse that the left makes for this is to blame a recession THEY CAUSED through liberal easing and monetary policy....
Liberalism offers the idea of fairness, the idea of equality, and the illusion of prosperity. Math, history and economics demonstrates that far more often than not the election has the false promise of hope, change, etc. but the people of this country are left with the broken promises and the higher tax bills.
If you're a person of color and you really think that more taxes and more government are the answer to our countries problem then that's your prerogative, but I am sick and tired of seeing people being emotionally manipulated because someone says they have "Hot Sauce" in their bag...
