2020 --- Who's at the top of your non-incumbent list?

#33

Quote:I see the lure of Cruz for a certain section of Conservatives.  I just don't think he has the ability to draw in more than his base.  I could be wrong, of course...

I'm really biased against Cruz, he creeps me out.  But, I'm not the type of person that would ever vote for him.

But do you see his short-comings in terms of a general election?  I think he's got alot of the trump problems when it comes to main-stream Americans.  He has the evangelical vote.  But beyond that, I just don't see who he brings in.  Especially with how fractured the GOP is gonna become after this election.

However, Crus is a hard core fiscal conservative.  Almost more so than even Paul Ryan...

Speaking of which, how come conservatives are so down on Paul Ryan?

A couple of substantial reasons why I believe Ted Cruz would have a chance at winning a general election are his communication skills and overall knowledge of the issues.  Alan Dershowitz,  who taught Ted Cruz at Harvard,  has praised Cruz as one of his smartest students ever.     Dershowitz is far from a Conservative,   yet he recognizes Cruz'  abilities.

Most people were skeptical that Cruz could even compete in the Republican Primary process for President this year.   How many non Cruz supports honestly believed that Cruz would finish in 2nd place out of 17 candidates?    Probably VERY few.     If the media would have given Cruz even remotely close to the attention Donald Trump received,   I believe Cruz would have won the Republican nomination.   With all of Hillary Clinton's baggage,   I think Cruz would have had a very realistic chance of defeating her.

As for Paul Ryan,  I think immigration positions more than anything are why most Conservatives are down on him.    I was happy when Ryan was chosen as Mitt Romney's running mate in 2012.   Today,  I wouldn't want Ryan on a Republican Ticket.   He's someone I probably would vote for reluctantly in a general election but he's far from an ideal choice.
