Quote:In 2011 we beat the Colts in meaningless a game to give them Andrew Luck. This year we beat the Texans in another meaningless game to all but ensure they can get Teddy.
It's bad enough when we are simply screwing ourselves out of the best players and franchise QBs in the draft, but when we are also setting up our division opponents for prolonged periods of prosperity at the same time...yikes.
Anyone who says beating the Texans twice was good for the future of the franchise is not thinking cogently. Which is fine because we're emotional fans, but you have to deal with and accept the repercussions.
This is what bothers me the most. When this team has something to play for, we basically get crushed against decent competition.....the level that every NFL team needs to play to do anything worth giving a damn about.
When we have little left to fight for, we somehow start winning meaningless games.......against teams that also has little to fight for. All this does is hurt ourselves in the long run. Don't kid yourselves, beating Houston twice at the state they are in, the Browns, and the Titans is basically beating up NFL garbage that demands no league respect. We have yet to beat a team with a winning record or a team that still has a legit shot of going to the playoffs.
And now the last 2 games of the season is against a team that has little shot of making the playoffs and against a team that already won the division and a playoff spot.
Like everyone else, I would love to see improvement and to continue to see which players is worth keeping. However, understanding when to play for victory and when it is worth throwing it in is just as important. Winning a battle just to lose the war is a terrible strategy and that is EXACTLY what the Jaguars is doing. We may be improving but considering we NEED a competent QB and we are helping out out 2 division rivals get in better position to get theirs, perhaps before us, just sounds stupid.
Thanks to us, Houston will get their pick of their QB and with all of the weapons they already have, we are basically going through the "Suck for Luck" mess that the Colts did 2 years ago. And don't tell me that the strategy didn't pay off big for the Colts.
I am convinced that even losing games when needed will also help paint the road to winning and winning big. Until the Jaguars understand that, we will always remain as the bottom of the barrel.
We are too stuck thinking about the present to even give any idea of what to expect in the future.
All I am asking at this point is competitive games.....but, unlike some of the other posters here, winning will do more damage than good for us. Let improve and start doing the winning next season.
