Actually, there was NO requirement for a SEC team to play ALL 8 games in order to play the SEC Championship. That is why the SEC has come out and said next year they will redo the rules and processes regarding situations such as these.


That is why me, the author of hundreds of articles, and the AD of LSU thought Florida was scared. Everyone knew that if Florida and Tennessee had the same amount of wins, Florida would go to the SEC Championship despite losing to Tennessee. That is since the SEC Bylaws states the team with the highest percentage of wins goes.


The decision to not allow UF or LSU into the championship game was done POST-FACTO. If you heard the SEC Commissioner, he said he was using Bylaw 4.4.2(e), which states he can interpret the rules, Bylaws, regulations, etc as he chooses, to interpret the 8 games as mandatory. But I promise you, you can't find a rule that actually mandates it. Hence, all the articles that came out after UF cancelled.
