No one wanted a player who didnt wanna be here and brought a poor attitude to work.  What everyone wanted was a player who played with a mean streak on sundays and was willing to show some grit and nasty or even mix it up with opposing players to send a message we arent to be [BAD WORD REMOVED] with. Ya know a Mike Peterson ,John Henderson , Donovin Darius , MJD , Blackmon type (minus the drinking problem) of player who actually got fired up and was willing to be the hammer before the nail.

Classic example of completely misunderstanding what the philosophy was about. It wasn't about avoiding guys with a mean streak on the field, but rather the guys that couldn't stay out of trouble off the field. Guys like Reggie Williams getting caught with weed or Gerald Sensabaugh getting arrested THREE times and hurting the team in the process. Gene Smith's problem wasn't with the character of the players he signed or drafted but with the talent.

 

And on sidenote; all the players you named were signed or drafted when Gene Smith was a significant part of the team's front office.
