When the Jaguars fired him, he spent the entire time between gigs reviewing film of each weeks game.  Right now, he's a senior adviser to the league, and no doubt continues to go through the game films for every team each week.  The guy has indicated he wants to get back into coaching if the opportunity presents.  It's who he is, so if the Jags do decide to fire up the DeLorean and go back in time, he'll happily accept. 

 

I've seen some here say he's a relic, or a dinosaur.  The guy is 4 years removed from his last Super Bowl win, He's not the heavy handed monster that was lurking the hallways of the stadium early on here in Jacksonville.  He is far more disciplined than what we're seeing right now, and he has a proven formula to win quickly.  

 

This roster has the talent to be competitive.  They lack the discipline to focus on the details that make the difference between a good and bad team.  They need someone who can instill that level of attention to detail.  If not Coughlin, whoever they go after needs to be more of a task master than the current regime.  

 

It's funny.  I noticed earlier this season when the team was arriving at a stadium on the road that the guys were pretty casually dressed, which is a departure from what we've seen from previous staffs.  Coughlin was a stickler for having his players look like professionals, especially when on the road.  Coat and tie was mandatory when traveling.  I think we've gotten away from that professional atmosphere under Bradley.  

 

I think Gus and Dave missed one fundamental thing in the rebuild, a very basic tenant of leadership.

 

I think they did a LOT of good in changing the culture......and then Gus blew it this year.

 

You CANNOT be a good guy, caring and cuddling type then switch to a disciplinarian.  It doesn't work.  And when it doesn't work, and you look like you are going back on your own principles, it can fail spectacularly.  I think that is a large part of what has happened here.

 

I don't blame or completely blame Dave for wanting a guy like Gus here during the rebuild, as it is on Gus to make that change to something that works.  

 

Leadership is a tough, tough thing.  It is why Belichick is so amazing.  Those guys CONSISTENTLY believe they will win, because they BELIEVE they should and will.  Smoking Houston with a 3rd string U of F reject?  Come on......

 

It is also why we see teams come in here licking their chops, because they believe they will beat us and we will fold, even when they are the 32nd ranked defense, suddenly they have their hair on fire against us.
