I don't think the answer is in this draft. I also don't think the long-term answer will be available via a trade or free agency, perhaps outside of Garoppolo.

 

But the team does need to bring in a veteran to compete with Blake and/or take over if he fails.

4) Sam Bradford OR Teddy Bridgewater

5) Colin Kaepernick/Blaine Gabbert (cough)

6) Case Keenum

8) Kirk Cousins (longshot, I suspect Washington will sign him)

9) Ryan Fitzpatrick

10) Nick Foles

11) RGIII (please no)

 

Bringing in Bridgewater to replace Bortles would be pretty hilarious given that they came out of the same draft class. Other than him and Jimmy G., I don't think any of those players represent anything more than a stopgap. Trying to fix Bortles may very well be the best option. The Franchise Quarterback Tree is not in season.

 

*including Jimmy G. because Belichick would probably let him go if the compensation is in his favor -- otherwise I think it makes sense for them to groom him as Brady's eventual replacement
