I quite frankly left a fan group years ago (Jagnation) because I heard what their "leadership" thought of and how they talked about people (including yourself).  I heard the "leadership" of that group openly mocking fans that supported them because of their disabilities.  When we used to do a podcast, I was able to hear them make very offensive and racist comments about other fans.  I personally don't want to be associated with people of their ilk.

 

By the way, that group for the most part folded.  One segment is still around and is why I refuse to even visit the website (BCC).  In all honesty, Alfie was one of the biggest offenders.

 

One member on this board who I admire and have the utmost respect for is D6.  I have seen many interactions and dialog between him and MJF.  I don't think I have ever seen one post of his that was derogatory or hateful towards her.  Perhaps if people learned and tried to be more like him meaningful change can really come about.

 

I for one much like D6 am conservative and hold many of the same values that he does.  I also happen to follow a certain religion that teaches "do unto others as you would want them to do unto you".  If you ask me, that's what this country really needs right now.

I appreciate what you did back in the day. You saw things others didn't or were unwilling to see. I completely understand where you're coming from on all fronts and I actually do empathize with her to a point. Because of something you said a week or so ago I started paying attention to what she says in a more open-minded way, but it's difficult. I have serious issues as well and I make sure to keep away from situations where the issue could become a problem. I would say maybe her condition and mine are not compatible, thus the disconnect, but I'm not the only one who is bothered by how she treats people.


If what you're doing is making your condition a serious problem then maybe you need to step away. If it means you don't lead a "normal" life then so be it. I have to give up many things because I will not put myself or others in a situation that could be detrimental. I've learned to adapt.


If her condition makes life difficult for her here maybe she needs to reevaluate to determine if it's worth it. It wasn't for me years back and is why I was gone for a long time. When I knew I could handle it I came back. I'm not unsympathetic I just don't get why she comes here if it causes such distress because I didn't and wouldn't again if necessary.
