McCarron Campaign

Quote:I think the fear when it comes to AJ, especially for a team like Jaguars with so many needs, is that you have to remember that he played his entire career at Alabama behind and with what was bar-none the best assembled cast of collegiate players on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. And so it's not overexaggerating to say that AJ threw the ball in the air every game knowing that 2-or-3 of the top 20 WRs in the nation were out there on the field to haul it down. That when he stood there so poised in the pocket, he knew for a fact that the biggest and strongest line in all of college football was protecting him. And he knew every game that he could always count on either the running game(one of the best in the nation), or the defense(perhaps THE best in the nation), to bail him out if he ever needed. Now think about. Take a kid like that, and throw him on what some say(wrongfully but they still say) the worst team in NFL history, like the Jaguars. To put the franchise on the back of a guy who admittedly hasn't carried his team on his own shoulders(case in point: Alabama will likely still be ranked in the top-3 next season even with Mccarron leaving, because everyone knows the true strength of Alabama is the Rushing and the Defense).

And perhaps the greatest example I can think of to explain this is back when Alabama played A&M earlier this year. When Johnny was being harassed and chased all over the field by the Tide's defense all day along, and yet still finagled his way to passing for over 460-yards on the best defense in the nation. And yet in the same game(and let me just quote it from ESPNSmile

When I hear that I think good on the Alabama D, but those sorts of statements scare me for AJ at the next level. People talk about how hard it is to transition to the NFL, etc. What about the guy who has gone most games in college without even touching the grass? Is he ready? Maybe, on the right team. IMO, his best shot is a team like the Texans who have some pieces already locked down. Because if he comes to a team like the Jaguars, or Oakland, or Browns, who are known for having a lot of holes on the roster, if could be a very rude awakening.

I agree wholeheartedly with your statement before you got to Manziel. And I guess I think I need to ask what you mean by 'value'. For strictly speaking, we don't know if any of these guys games will translate to the NFL. Every single QB in this draft has the potential to be a complete bust in the right circumstances. And so its pointless to argue that. But speaking simply about value or profit to a franchise, regarding both igniting the fans and demanding the national spotlight, Manziel undoutedly has to be the most 'valuable' prospect of this entire year. And I'll give you some very practical and tangible examples of that 'value' that he brings, that IMO will not happen in Jacksonville if we get teddy, Carr, Bortles, or even Mccarron in the later rounds. .
And I'd honestly like to hear your opinion and see what you think about this,

First off, almost everyone agrees(for better or worse), whether Johnny goes 1st or 21st, he'll be the talk of the draft-day. All the espn cameras will be on him, and all the stories the next day will be about the team that picks him up. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see Johnny as the first rookie of this year to appear on the cover of sports-illustrated, and it'd be nice to see a bright big logo of the Jaguars while he's doing it.

And I think it's almost a given by this point that wherever he goes, Manziel's jersey will probably be the highest selling jersey of the year(at the very least for all rookies). Now think about that, think about more people in this nation buying/wearing a freakin Jaguars jersey. Our Jaguars! Sadly some of our fans can't even imagine something like that.

And I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that the first few Jaguar games with Manziel under center, are the most watched in the entire NFL, again something we couldn't even dream of this year.

And if he does somehow play like the Johnny-football we all know, then suddenly all of Jaguars past sins are forgiven, and we are perhaps in a single year back to relevancy and a primetime spotlight(the type of team the NFL begs to play on Monday Night Football).

I think in one well fell-pick, Jaguars become the team that everybody's talking about, heck the worth of franchise itself would probably double overnight. And the fact that our city could experience the same sort of 'effects' that Indy, Carolina, and Washington did their first years with Cam, Luck, and RG3, by getting MAnziel at number 4-or-5, and could do it without even having the first or second pick like all those other teams did. Well, I call that a massive value and bargain.

That being said, I wouldn't mind getting Johnny, and then picking up AJ in the fourth if he's there for backup. I hear the two are already friends, and would be confident in our future going forward with those 2 young men at the helm

Okay first of I will agree about Johnny will have a TON on publicity following the draft and he is an exciting player. I jus have some issues with is play, he runs around the pocket a lot with the ball flailing around, n he also throw a lot of lobs to Evans, he easily could threw 7 more ints this season, secondly he play even physical he gotta change that before he enters the nfl. Although I do like his ceiling, big arm, elusiveness, and big play ability..... Now about McCarron, first Auburn has the best rushing attack and if ur talking rushing attempts per game then no way Bama isn't even close to the top they throw a lot too, McCarron throw a lot as well and it's not like he take forever to get rid of the ball so not getting sacked isn't jus credit to the O-line, btw he was sacked 22 times last year so he did get hit a lot. U also say he is passing to the 20 WRs in college, so wat he'll be passing to blackmon, shorts and our WR core who is 100 times better than any in college. U can't knock on a guy for doin good in a good college he can't do any better than he is, I'd say 2 national championship and only 3 losses in ur entire college career. u would need to be pretty special at QB. I honestly think Carr, Bortles and Hudley will all be complete bust. I'd say be jus don't go QB in the 1st, I have a feeling on Clowney and Barr, I'm not saying I'm a draft guru but I have some great 1st round mocks, hears my mock draft for our team and I have in in writing (assuming we pick at the same spot every year) over the years since 2008. Crazy this is every player was pick after out pick so we coulda got all of em, again if we pick the same spot each year. I know it coulda change due to these player but check it.

2008 - Ryan Clady

2009 - Brian Orakpo
