I'm simply posting my point of view from being around a lot of 18 and 19 year olds that are new to the Navy.  Also being around a lot of young children in my neighborhood (middle and high school aged).  Most of them don't know "why" they prefer one candidate over the other, other than "popularity".  The "friends" on Facebook pretty much tell them which is the better candidate rather than learning the truth themselves.  They don't "like" one candidate over the other because of policy decisions, they "like" one over the other either based on popularity or because of what they see on comedy shows and/or social media.

 

I find it pretty hard to believe that young children, even high school aged children really have a grasp on the real issues that we as a country face.

That's a fair question as well.  Me personally, I don't care if someone has a different political point of view from me as long as it's accurate.  When you have young adults saying that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are "BFF", that's pretty much false.  When you have young adults fresh out of high school that say they were never taught about The Cold War I have a problem with that.  When you have young adults and some children saying that Socialism and/or Communism are a good thing for our nation, I have a problem with that.

 

Regarding the last statement, I've asked them about the history of North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela since that's fairly recent history.  They have absolutely no idea about the past and/or present state of those countries.  Yet, they were taught that Socialism/Communism are the way that this country should go.

 

Most of the young adults that I'm around on a daily basis were infants or very young when 9/11 happened.  A shocking number of them were taught in public government school that it was our fault that it happened.  Quite a few blame President Bush for the attacks because that is what they were taught.

 

Now the young adults that I'm around on a daily basis come from all walks of life and from all over the country.  I'm not saying that they all think that way, but there is a significant number of them that do.  When I hear some of the stuff that they say it leads me to the opinion that they've been indoctrinated rather than educated.

 

Don't get me started over the whole "LGBTQ" and which restroom is appropriate to use issue.  Quite frankly, LGBTQ==GAY.  They don't all deserve their own "title" and they don't all deserve a "participation trophy".  I had my grandson who is in elementary school try to tell me that there are "no winners and losers".  I promptly played a childhood game with him that I easily won and told him that he lost and was the loser of the game.  He didn't like that much, so we played another game, this time I let him win and told him that I was the loser and he was the winner.  I also pointed out that if he wanted to be a winner he would have to work at it.  I hope and pray that he gets the message and learned the lesson.
